From Columbus  

• Ohio Department of Health Director Bruce Vanderhoff, MD, said last week at a press conference that influenza activity across the state continues to climb, urging Ohioans to get vaccinated as the best protection against severe illness.
• Natural kratom would be classified as an illegal Schedule I drug under rules approved by the Ohio Board of Pharmacy. 
• The Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation (OSPF), has been awarded an adult male suicide prevention grant from the Ohio Department of Health. Part of the grant includes providing free training on how to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide. Additional information can be found here.

• The Health Policy Institute of Ohio has released a new policy explainer on Rural Health Transformation Program funding in Ohio, the new fund created by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). 
• Federal health officials have announced dramatic revisions to the slate of vaccines recommended for American children, reducing the number of diseases prevented by routine shots from 17 to 11.
• Sen. Cassidy speaks out against vaccine schedule change, noting that it's not based on scientific input or expertise.
