From Washington

  • The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released an interim final rule that will guide state implementation of Medicaid work requirements. Early analysis of the rule by the Center of Budget and Policy Priorities can be found here, and by the Kaiser Family Foundation here.
  • CMS also announced that it is adding electronic prior authorization to its health tech ecosystem. This will build upon the administration’s prior work to speed up prior authorizations, which are now required to be completed within 72 hours for urgent requests and 7 calendar days for standard requests.
  • A new report found that there are 2 million fewer children enrolled in either Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program compared to January 2025.
