• April is National Minority Health Month (NMHM), a time to raise awareness about health disparities that continue to affect people from racial and ethnic minority groups and encourage action through health education, early detection, and control of disease complications.

From Washington:

• The Biden-Harris Administration is working to address the maternal health crisis in the U.S., including reducing maternal mortality and morbidity and advancing maternity care quality, safety, and equity.
• Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra extended the Public Health Emergency determination for an additional 90 days, effective April 16. This is the ninth such extension since the original declaration.

From Columbus

• City of Columbus sues Ohio over conscience clause for health providers. The AMCNO opposed the "conscience clause," which was inserted into the state budget. 

• An Ohio judge has blocked early enforcement of an Ohio abortion law signed in December that included additional licensing requirements challenged by the ACLU and Planned Parenthood as unnecessarily onerous.
• The Health Policy Institute of Ohio has released a new fact sheet, “Ohio Medicaid Basics Update: Trends in Enrollment and Expenditures During the COVID-19 Pandemic.” Since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020, enrollment in, spending on and federal funding for Ohio Medicaid have increased significantly.
